Dragonforce: Valley of the Damned
I don't see how anyone could give this cd less than 5 stars.
If you know metal then get this cd and you will see what
i mean. I didn't think anything could outdo Awakening the
World by Lost Horizon until i heard Dragonforce. Blistering
speed with unreal song writing can best describe Valley of the
Damned. Do yourself a favor and get this cd.

Down II : A Bustle in Your Hedgerow
In 1995, some of rock & roll's most notorious--and well-respected--beer drinkers and hell-raisers stepped outside the bounds of their respective bands to form a sort of underground supergroup. That instantly legendary cult band, Down, featuring Pantera's Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown, Corrosion of Conformity's Pepper Keenan, Crowbar's Kirk Windstein and Eye Hate God's Jimmy Bower, shared a common birthplace in New Orleans, a love for Black Sabbath, and if the songs "The Seed" and "Doobinterlude" are any indication, a propensity for a certain leafy substance.

Doro : Fight
Really hard hitting album. Doro simply refuses to mellow with age. this would be great for fans of the old school metal of the 1980s. She remains true to her sound and her vision and does not jump the nu-metal bandwagon like a lot of her peers have done in recent years. This is also great because of the two kickass videos that come with it. They are professionally done and Doro looks as great and intense as ever. Man I'd love to see her live!! Ya gotta get this!

Believe [ENHANCED] [EXPLICIT LYRICS]: Disturbed
The Windy City alt-metal provocateurs Disturbed surprised everyone when their debut, The Sickness, sold over 2 million copies. Here, once again, the band's imperious chrome-domed vocalist David Draiman bleats out the band's messages of nonconformity, self-empowerment, and individuality with a passion and ferocity that hasn't been heard since the '60s--though there's little room for peace, love, and understanding in Disturbed's world. Instead, Draiman laces the band's message with equal parts rage, disgust, and menace, all delivered in a thundering voice that alternates from the lyrical to the grizzled. Ozzy Osbourne has called Disturbed the "future of metal," and he might be right; they have almost single-handedly plucked the genre out of the aggro dung heap and fueled it with intelligence. The band is just as aggressive here as on their debut, but they've lost some of their dark angst, and as a result have created a melodic, psychically lighter album, despite the fact that the CD kicks off with "Prayer," a conversation between Draiman and God, inspired by the singer's grandfather's death.

The Sickness [PA] [EXPLICIT LYRICS]Disturbed
I passed up buying this album on multiple occasions for fear of Stupify being the only good song. I finally picked it up and I was blown away. These guys have made a killer hard rock/neo-metal album.

The Deadlights
Musically, The Deadlights delivers tempestuous rock made all the more disorientating by sampled shrieks and machine crashes and squeals, while Duke slips from a guttural roar to surprisingly sweet pop trill. --Dominic Wills

Damaged
These guys are the fastest hard core death metal band I've ever heard. Lovers of Machine Head and Fear Factory should really get into this. Whats more, they're Australian too. Oh yeah, they play twice as fast live.... ~GORDO.

Satans Child
Danzig
Glenn Danzig has long treaded on the darker, heavier side of rock. From the late 1970s Satan's Child boasts tried-and-true bottom-heavy riffing and searing guitars mixed in with mysterious, quieter interludes, making it a suitable selection for musical madness on Halloween, and beyond. --Katherine Turman

Days Of The New
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT! If you identified with the first CD, you'll connect even more with this one. Travis reveals light in his darkness on DOTN2, keeping full potency in the delivery of his Godlike trance vocals and hypnotic chord progression. My favorite track today is "Enemy". ~Chance Hutton

Killing the Dragon
DIO
Somewhere in Ronnie James Dio's attic is a portrait of a decrepit rock star growing old in his place. There's no other explanation; Killing the Dragon proves that the vocalist's career is boundless, as he keeps putting out excellent albums. Unlike his previous release (the excellent concept album Magica), Dio goes for a more straightforward metal approach here. New guitarist Doug Aldrich captures the classic Dio sound on the fast-paced "Better in the Dark" and the title track, with its memorable riffs and blistering solos. "Throw Away Children," which deals with the death of a runaway girl, is as passionate musically as it is lyrically, while the dark anthem "Rock & Roll" is hypnotic and Sabbath-like as it builds at a slow and heavy-handed pace. In all, it's a solid collection of traditional metal rockers, all of which are wonderfully recognizable as Dio standards. Only death and taxes are more reliable than he is.

The King of Metal returns with the best Dio album in years! All diehard Diomaniacs should get this CD, as well as the more casual Dio fan. I give it 41/2 stars. GET THIS CD!

Bruce Dickinson
This is one of the most powerful recordings to come down the road in the past 10 years. Bruce Dickenson has allied himself with an incredible group of talent. The amazing Roy Z is one of best guitar players I've heard in years companied with the masterful Adrian Smith, their playing will blow you away.

Once In A Livetime [LIVE]Dream Theater
Some find this New York quintet pretentious, but those with a taste for intelligent, dramatic, over-the-top heavy rock appreciate the band's musical finesse and forgive the songs that are less than stellar. What makes Dream Theater a concert attraction is their impressive extended solos and jams. Intros and passages carry over, serving as a splice from one track to the next.

Scenes From A Memory
Dream Theatre
Here we have a two-act murder mystery examined from a hypnotic dream state and parlayed by "The Orchestra," as the band refers to itself here. The addition of keyboardist Jordan Rudess has freshened the band's tack, infused now with the odd, playful ragtime piano quote and sitar sample. Vocalist James Labrie, meanwhile, amply proves that Queensryche's Geoff Tate isn't the only drama queen in prog metal. --Jerry McCulley
